Then comes the Sistine Chapel where Pope Julius II put Michelangelo to work in 1508. Admire Michelangelo's breathtaking Creation Story - with more than 300 figures on a ceiling area of more than 500m2, this is one of the most special works of art in the world. Twenty years later, Michelangelo returns once more to paint the altar wall. This artwork has been known as The Last Judgment since its completion in 1541. Thanks to your passionate guide, who has unraveled every secret of the chapel, you will have got to know Michelangelo as if you were there yourself. You knew that this is where the Conclave takes place, right?
We will leave the museums via the imposing 'Scala Regia' and the 'Bronze Gate' where you will stand eye in eye with the notorious 'Swiss Guards'. The tour will end on Saint-Peter's Square after which the guide will bid you farewell. The guide will show you the way to the metal detectors to explore the basilica on your own. Entrance is free. You enter the basilica through the Porta Santa.
