Description

Begin your journey in the heart of Vatican City: St. Peter’s Square. As you step into this monumental space, the grandeur of its architecture immediately commands attention. Designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini in the 17th century, the square is a masterpiece of Baroque vision and symbolism. Its vast colonnades, arranged in an embracing oval, represent the Church’s open arms welcoming pilgrims and visitors from around the world.

At the center of the square stands the ancient Egyptian Obelisk, originally erected in Heliopolis and later brought to Rome by Emperor Caligula. Standing in St. Peter’s Square since 1586, this remarkable monument has silently witnessed centuries of history, from the Roman Empire to the present day.

After the required security checks, enter St. Peter’s Basilica and prepare to be moved by its magnificence. Beneath your feet, colorful marble floors form intricate patterns across the vast interior, while the richly decorated ceiling above glows with golden splendor. Every corner reflects centuries of devotion, artistic genius, and architectural ambition.

With your expert guide leading the way, discover some of the Basilica’s most treasured highlights. At the crossing of the nave and transept, admire the magnificent Papal Altar and Bernini’s Baldachin, the monumental bronze canopy marking the sacred area above the traditional burial place of St. Peter. Continue to Michelangelo’s La Pietà, a sublime masterpiece showing the Virgin Mary holding the body of Christ, created when Michelangelo was still a young artist.

As the guided visit continues, descend into the Papal Grottoes, the solemn crypt beneath the Basilica where many popes and historical figures are buried. Walk through this quiet and reverent space while your guide explains its historical and spiritual importance.

At the end of the guided tour, your guide will accompany you to the entrance of the Dome. The Dome climb is not guided and is enjoyed at your own pace. Once there, you can take your time, admire the views, and continue your visit independently for as long as you wish.
