Start your morning with a climb to one of Rome’s most impressive viewpoints. Meet your guide near St. Peter’s Square, enter St. Peter’s Basilica early, and begin the ascent toward the top of the Dome.
Take the elevator to the first terrace, then continue up the final 320 steps through a narrow historic stairway. At the summit, look out over Vatican City, St. Peter’s Square, and the rooftops of Rome stretching into the distance.

Back on ground level, inside St. Peter's Basilica, admire Michelangelo’s Pietà, stand beneath Bernini’s majestic Baldacchino, and visit the grand altar built over the tomb of St. Peter.

Good to know before you go
  • Modest attire is required for St. Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican Museums, and the Sistine Chapel, meaning shoulders and knees must be covered for all participants; no hats or flip flops please.
  • The final portion of the dome climb (320 steps) must be done by stairs, even with elevator access to the first level.
  • The Basilica is closed on Wednesday mornings due to the Papal Audience. During state visits or special religious events, parts of St. Peter's Basilica may be closed unexpectedly and without much notice, in which case we will reach out to assist you in rescheduling.
  • All visitors must pass through airport-style security. During high season, the wait at security may be up to 30 minutes.
  • The Sistine Chapel is a place of worship, so visitors are not allowed to speak inside. Your guide will explain what you will see before entering.
  • Please arrive 15 minutes early for check-in at the meeting point so the group can begin the tour on time.
