Description
We'll start by the Spanish steps, where you'll learn everything about them and why they're called like this (you'll be surprised!).
By the Spanish steps we'll meet the first fountain of the tour. This is where we'll begin a journey through the aqueducts of Rome! In fact this fountain is still fed today by an ancient Roman aqueduct built in 19BC!
From here we'll follow the aqueduct which is, for the most part, underground. And by casually walking through this itinerary we’ll find parts of the aqueduct appearing between the modern buildings.
During this walking tour we'll get to go underground on a couple of occasions to see the aqueduct up close and its water still flowing through it!
We'll follow the aqueduct until its monumental end: the Trevi fountain. But we won't stop here.
In the second part of the tour, we'll get away from the crowds, turn the corner and discover the underground water reservoir that the ancient Romans built over 2000 years ago!
Why this experience?
During this walking tour we don’t just take you to the underground site (which only allows visitors to spend 30 mins inside) without any context. We take you on a journey “through water” that starts in Piazza di Spagna and continues following the track of the ancient aqueduct until the underground site. You get lots of context, which makes this tour not just about the specific site, but about the entire city and how modern Rome was built around the ancient ruins.
