Arrive early for a clear view as the Pope greets and blesses the crowd, hear his inspiring message, and see the Holy Father up close.

Afterward, visit St. Peter’s Basilica, one of the holiest sites of Christianity and Catholic tradition and the world’s largest church.

Admire its colorful marble, intricate mosaics, and Renaissance and Baroque artworks, including Bernini’s baldachin and Michelangelo’s Pietà. Then head underground to visit St. Peter’s Tomb.

You will also have the opportunity to climb to the top of the Basilica’s dome on your own and enjoy panoramic views of landmarks such as the Colosseum and Pantheon in the distance.

Good to know before you go
  • Expect to wait in line for around 15–30 minutes to enter St. Peter’s Square. You will also be required to pass through metal detectors at the square’s entrance
  • The Dome's terrace might not be accessible during bad weather
  • Modest clothing is required to enter the Basilica (knees and shoulders should be covered)
  • If the Vatican decides to close the Basilica for any religious reasons .
