Go underneath the Colosseum and explore the tunnels of the hypogeum, the Latin word for the underground. See the tunnels in the underground level of the Colosseum where the animals and the gladiators were held before the fights.
Move on to the reconstructed arena floor where your guide will tell you about the gladiator fights and the wild animals that used to be found there during the Roman imperial period. Finish off this portion of the tour inside the Colosseum by visiting the first and second rings of the Colosseum.
From the Colosseum, walk to the Roman Forum where everyday life took place in ancient Rome. Admire the ruins of Ceasar's Temple and the Arch of Titus. Then visit Palatine Hill and check out the Imperial Palaces. Learn about the Domitian Palace, the Domus Augusti, the Temple of Apollo.
