Description

Embark on a fascinating underground journey through the Catacombs and discover a hidden side of Rome’s history. Venture beneath the city’s busy streets and monumental landmarks to explore one of its most mysterious and ancient sites. As you walk through these underground passages, your expert guide will reveal little-known stories from Rome’s darker past. The guided tour of the Catacombs is available in Italian, English, French, Spanish, German, and Polish.

Begin your experience at Piazza Venezia, one of the most spectacular and centrally located squares in Rome, next to the Town Hall. From here, board a panoramic bus for a roundtrip transfer to the Catacombs, enjoying views of the city along the way.

Once underground, explore the vast network of tunnels lined with tombs carved directly into the rock. Learn how these sacred passageways, dating back nearly 2,000 years to the 2nd century AD, served as burial grounds and places of worship for Rome’s earliest Christians.

You can also enhance your experience by choosing additional options. Opt for a guided underground tour of the Trevi District (available in English only), where you will explore hidden ruins and passages beneath the famous area while hearing fascinating stories and historical insights from your guide.

Another option includes a visit to the Capuchin Museum and Crypt. Visit independently with an audio guide and discover the famous Capuchin Crypt on Via Veneto. Here, the remains of approximately 4,000 Capuchin friars were used to create intricate floor-to-ceiling decorations, earning the site the macabre nickname “the Bone Chapel.”

For easier access to the Capuchin Crypt, you may choose the option that includes a 3-hour Hop-on, Hop-off bus ticket, allowing you to conveniently hop off near the crypt.

Please note: if you plan to visit all attractions on the same day, the earliest available entry time for the Capuchin Crypt is 14:45.
