Description
The Roman Empire Museum, also known as the Capitoline Museums, has an extensive collection of art and artifacts all telling the fascinating history of Rome. In 1734, Pope Clementine XII decided to make this significant collection of artwork and ancient sculptures permanently accessible to the people of Rome.
Admire the famous she-wolf sculpture featuring Rome's founders Romulus and Remus, and see the treasure chest of items telling the story of Rome, the ancient Caput Mundi. Marvel at the Ancient Roman Forum on top of one of the Seven Hills of Rome.
The Centrale Montemartini is the new exhibition space for the Capitoline Museums housed in the first public thermoelectric power plant. Admire hundreds of sculptures from the exhibition entitled, “The Machines and the Gods" in 1997. Explore the opposition between two different worlds: classical art and industrial archaeology. The display reconstructs some of the great monumental complexes and illustrates the development of the ancient city from the Republican era to the late Imperial Age.
- For the combined option only: please note that the Centrale Montemartini Museum is 10 minutes away from the Capitoline Museums by car or 30 minutes by public transportation; transfer between the attractions is not included
