Description

Start your day early with an air-conditioned bus ride from Rome, taking in the picturesque landscapes of the Italian countryside as you head into the heart of Tuscany.

Your first stop is Montepulciano, perched on a hilltop. Your certified tour leader will accompany you up to the historic center, a walk of about 8-10 minutes along a uphill path, to the main square, a filming location of the “Twilight” movie saga.

Once in the center, you will have free time to explore the charming streets and piazzas at your own pace. Browse local shops, eat a gelato, or simply admire the stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

Next, visit a historic 13th-century winery, home to a 2,000-year-old Etruscan tomb. Lunch is served in the old refectory once used by the friars (the room itself is not part of the visit). Enjoy a selection of local cured meats and cheeses with a glass of Montepulciano red wine, followed by a traditional Tuscan pasta dish, pici with ragù, paired with a second glass of wine.

After lunch, continue to Montalcino, known as the “balcony of the Val d’Orcia” for its sweeping views. Your tour leader will accompany you to the historic center, and you will then have free time to explore this ancient village at your own pace, now world-famous for its Brunello di Montalcino wine.

During your free time, you may wish to visit independently attractions such as the Temple of Brunello interactive museum, housed in the former Sant’Agostino convent, or the town’s impressive fortress.

Please note: as both Montepulciano and Montalcino are set on hills, this tour involves steep uphill walking and is not suitable for travelers with reduced mobility.
