Description

Discover Castel Sant'Angelo, one of the most beautiful monuments in the capital. Built in Roman times as the tomb of Emperor Hadrian, it was converted into a papal fortress in the early Renaissance and houses a prison and a place of execution.

Connected to the Vatican Palace via an elevated walkway, it was used by popes to escape in case of danger.

The castle's prisons housed such famous prisoners as the goldsmith
Benvenuto Cellini and Cagliostro. Once inside, you will visit the Papal Rooms, the Spiral Staircase, the Hall of Emperor Hadrian's Ashes, and the magnificent Angel's Terrace where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the city of Rome.
