Description
Matisse was not destined for painting. However, his boldness overturned many conventions. Faced with the apparent simplicity of the portraits and silhouettes, or the disconcerting radicalism of his paintings, how can we better understand the upheavals he caused?
The works from the end of his life, a period of intense renewal, show the balances he achieved, for example, in the confrontation between line and color, or in the dialogue between empty and full spaces. Through multiple techniques, his compositions, such as those of the Intérieurs de Vence or the Jazz album, overflow with vitality.
The graphic rhythms of the Nus bleus, the joy of the colors in the Danseuse créole, the power of the motifs in the cut-out gouaches: let yourself be surprised by a drawing, the light of a stained glass window, or one of the 300 works in this exhibition that is rich in emotions.
