Description

This 1-hour walking tour covers Notre-Dame Island (Île de la Cité), the site where Paris was founded and where Roman, medieval, and revolutionary history sit within a few hundred meters of each other. Guests meet their guide at Pont Neuf and walk along the Seine to the Conciergerie, once a royal residence and later the prison that held Marie Antoinette during the French Revolution. The route continues to Sainte-Chapelle, built for Louis IX in the 1240s to house the Crown of Thorns, and the Palais de Justice, still an active courthouse today. The guided portion concludes with a guided exterior tour of Notre-Dame Cathedral. Guests then continue on their own for a self-guided visit inside the cathedral; entry is reserved in advance, subject to the cathedral's availability. The walking tour runs approximately 1 hour, in groups capped at 15 travelers, with a professional and knowledgeable guide throughout. Once the guided portion ends, guests are free to explore the island independently. Optional add-ons include Sainte-Chapelle and Conciergerie entry tickets, or a Seine river cruise at the start of the tour.
