Description
Begin your tour at St. Paul’s Station and set off on a journey through history. As you walk, hear about St. Paul’s Cathedral, designed by Sir Christopher Wren after the Great Fire of London in 1666. Learn about the fire and the rebuilding of the city.
Make your way toward Fleet Street, passing Ludgate Hill, a historic road leading from the Thames up to the City. Arrive at your first stop, Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, a pub with origins in 1538. Discover its connections to literary figures like Charles Dickens and Dr. Samuel Johnson. Spend 15-20 minutes soaking in the atmosphere.
Next, walk to the Old Bank of England, a neoclassical building with stunning architecture. Learn about Fleet Street’s importance to the British press and the pub’s history as a former Bank of England office. Spend another 15-20 minutes here.
Continue to The City of Yorke, walking through the financial district. Discover how this area has been the heart of London’s commerce and finance for centuries. Spend 15-20 minutes at the pub, located next to the famous Lloyd’s Building (also known as The Gherkin).
Finally, head to The Blackfriar, a stunning example of Art Nouveau architecture. Hear about Blackfriars Bridge, Blackfriars Station, and the Dominican friars who once lived here. Spend 15-20 minutes admiring the pub’s mosaics and ornate tiles, which feature religious figures and the monastic history of the area. Finish your tour at The Blackfriar, a short walk from Blackfriars Station.
