Description
This shared minivan tour offers a more personal, relaxed experience with smaller groups, flexible stops, and better access to hidden gems, far from the crowds and rigid schedules of large bus tours.
Begin your tour with a scenic drive through the bulbflower area in Lisse, just a short ride from Amsterdam. Depending on the season, admire vibrant carpets of bulbflowers in nearly every color you can think of.
Arrive at Keukenhof, the world’s largest and most beautiful garden, situated in the heart of South Holland’s tulip area. Receive your skip-the-line entrance tickets and listen as your guide provides an introduction to Keukenhof and the story behind it. Then, explore the gardens and pavilions at your leisure.
Next, visit The Tulip Barn, a tulip farm in Hillegom. Enjoy the tulip fields and show garden, and take iconic pictures right next to the tulip fields. Get up close and personal with the flowers in the area. Enjoy the greenhouse and terrace for food and drinks (available at your own expense). There are play areas for children and learning activities.
Continue to De Simonehoeve, a family-run traditional cheese farm and wooden shoe (clog) factory located in the wetland area in Katwoude, near Volendam. Learn how they produce cheese and carve wooden clogs the old-fashioned way. Sample their renowned Gouda and Edam cheeses, and see how real Dutch clogs are made by hand.
Finally, visit the iconic dike in Volendam with a view on the lakeside. Visit a cheese shop still making cheese using a traditional Dutch method, and join a demonstration about Volendam cheese. Volendam is a former fishing town and known for its great fish specialties, the famous Dutch “Salty Haring’, ‘Smoked Eel”and Smoked Mackerel.
- The tour involves walking through gardens and farms, so comfortable shoes are recommended.
- Weather can vary, so dress appropriately.
