Description
Step into the wild at San Diego Zoo Safari Park, a haven for explorers and animal lovers alike. Spanning 1,800 acres, the park is home to over 3,000 animals from 375 species, living in open field enclosures that mirror their natural habitats. Create lasting memories as you wander through themed zones, from the lush Heart of Africa to the vibrant Tiger Trail, and support conservation efforts that reach across 35 countries.
A new chapter unfolds in early 2026 with the opening of Denny Sanford Elephant Valley - the largest project in the park’s history. This first-of-its-kind experience immerses you in the world of African savanna elephants, offering a unique perspective on their role as ecosystem engineers and the rich social bonds within the herd. Walk alongside elephants on winding pathways lined with rare African plants, including endangered cycads and iconic thorn trees, all carefully curated to evoke the sights, sounds, and scents of the savanna. At the heart of Elephant Valley, the two-story Mkutano House restaurant overlooks a vast watering hole where elephants swim and play, offering a front-row seat to their natural behaviors. Learn about global conservation partnerships and the communities in Kenya where people and elephants coexist, and discover how research at the park is shaping the future of elephant protection.
Continue your adventure with classic favorites: get nose-to-nose with lions at Lion Camp, stroll through the Hidden Jungle’s tropical greenhouse, and marvel at free-flying birds in the Wings of the World Aviary. Kids can enjoy hands-on fun at Discovery Station, while the Africa Tram Safari offers a relaxing ride through expansive savannas. Don’t miss daily animal encounters, enrichment sessions, and interactive digital experiences like “Have you ‘herd’? with Robert the Zebra.”
Your day ends with newfound appreciation for wildlife and conservation, with plenty of spaces to relax, dine, and explore at your own pace.
