Description

Step into a creative sanctuary and leave the bustle of Dublin behind. This intimate, hands-on experience blends Irish history, language, key insights into Irish writing/printing systems as they evolved over hundreds of years.

Hosted in carefully chosen Dublin venues - including the artistic LAB, the soulful Segotia, and the vibrant Priory Market - every session is small, personal, and unforgettable.

Part 1: The History & The Tongue
We begin with a visual journey into the origins of Irish writing, starting with Ogham, to Insular script, working our way up to Cló Gaelach. You’ll see how this script evolved over 100s of years, examining beautiful prints of Bunreacht na hÉireann (the Irish Constitution) + key articles of it relating to our languages, learn about what happened to Cló Gaelach and recent re-engagement with it. We’ll also learn about our very own English, Hiberno-English shaped by the Irish language, which you hear on streets across Ireland and be taught a few essential Irish phrases to use during your stay.

Part 2: The Art of the Pen
Now, it’s your turn. Using specially designed practice sheets, you will be guided through each stroke of the Cló Gaelach - creating a fun way to engage with this script while examining real texts printed in Cló Gaelach from the 20th century.

Part 3: The Masterpiece
Once you’ve found your flow, you will write a poem chosen from a 100-year-old Irish poetry book from a local female Dublin poet and proud Gaeilgeoir from the 20th century. You’ll leave with a deep, personal connection to core aspects of Irish culture.

Your journey doesn't end here. After our time together, you’ll receive a curated digital resource pack. This includes links to written sources covered in the session, Irish language learning opportunities, and a playlist of the modern Irish music played during our session, so you can continue your cultural journey long after you leave Dublin.

Good to Know:

Venues rotate between Priory Market, the LAB, and Segotia - you'll receive your exact location by text and email well in advance, with clear "how to find us" instructions. Please take careful note of the venue/its location.
