Description
Hungarian history has never been boring, but the last one and a half centuries have revealed pretty much all the facets: from the peaceful compromise with Franz Joseph to the two world wars, the Hungarian Arrow Cross, the "best student of Stalin," goulash communism, the opening of the Berlin Wall, to the right-wing populism of Viktor Orbán - and his fall in the 2026 elections.
On this tour, we will mostly walk around Freedom Square in the city center of Pest, where dozens of statues, monuments, and buildings can be used to explain the last one and a half centuries in a very vivid way.
However, not only pure history and politics are addressed, but also sociological aspects that explain the way of thinking and acting of the Hungarian population.
The tour ends at the Parliament, where, after discussing history, the present of Hungarian politics is also addressed.
- During the guided tour, we only walk within a very small area, so the total length of the tour is only about 500 meters – everything is flat and also suitable for wheelchair users/people with limited mobility.
- This tour will be led in GERMAN.
