Description
Our tour begins at Hess András Square, by the statue of Pope Innocent XI, where we step back in time to the former royal seat of Buda. We explore Matthias Church and its surroundings, then continue to the iconic Fisherman’s Bastion, one of Budapest’s best photo spots, offering breathtaking views of the Danube, the Parliament, and the city beyond.
Strolling through Szentháromság Square and charming side streets, we reach the Tóth Árpád Promenade with its beautiful panorama over Buda. Along the way, we share stories about local legends, Ottoman heritage, the historic Ruszwurm confectionery, and the hidden tunnel system beneath Castle Hill.
Passing the Castle District’s most important public buildings and the funicular station, we arrive at the majestic Buda Palace, home to the Hungarian National Gallery and the Budapest History Museum. From its terraces, you can enjoy stunning views over the river and the Pest side.
We end our walk in the courtyard of the former Royal Palace, in front of King Matthias's fountain.
- The Buda Castle District is mostly paved with cobblestones, and there may be holes and unevenness in the ground. The route also includes stairs and ramps. Therefore, to avoid accidents, it is highly recommended to wear comfortable shoes and to walk carefully.
