Description

Departure from Barcelona at the scheduled time, from your hotel, to the region of Montserrat, a journey of approximately one hour.
Upon arrival, we will explore the Monastery of Montserrat, a historical treasure of more than a thousand years, located in the mountains of Catalonia. Founded in the 11th century, this site houses the Virgin of Montserrat, "La Moreneta", and offers exceptional panoramic views from its 720 meters above sea level.
We will visit the monastery's Basilica, noted for its 12-meter-high organ and more than 4,200 pipes, combining Gothic, Renaissance and Catalan architectural elements. Next, we will explore the Museum of Montserrat, with works by El Greco, Miró, Dalí, Tápies, Picasso and other masters, as well as an archaeological collection with pieces from Egypt and Mesopotamia.
Stop to enjoy lunch with breathtaking views of the valley, because then we will head to Cardona Castle, where we will explore the modern fortress and parts of the old count castle. We will visit the Minyona Tower and the collegiate church of San Vicente, a treasure of Catalan Lombard Romanesque. This visit, lasting about 1 hour, will allow us to discover one of the best preserved medieval ensembles in Spain, famous for its resistance during the War of Succession in 1714 and Napoleon's attacks.
Next, we will explore the historic Salt Mountain mine, with a 1000 year history that has been adapted as the Salt Mountain Cultural Park.
The tour begins in the open-air museum area, in the old extraction shaft 'Maria Teresa'. Here, we will learn about the history of the industrial exploitation of the valley. Then, we will take a guided tour inside the Salt Mountain, exploring the galleries with their colorful folds and veins.
Finally we will return to Barcelona.
