Description

Departure from Barcelona at the scheduled time, from your hotel, for the Montserrat region, a journey of approximately one hour.
Upon arrival, we will explore the Montserrat Monastery, a historic treasure dating back over a thousand years and nestled in the mountains of Catalonia. Founded in the 11th century, this site is home to the Virgin of Montserrat, known as “La Moreneta” (the Black Madonna), and offers exceptional panoramic views from 720 meters above sea level.
We will visit the monastery's Basilica, notable for its 12-meter-high organ with over 4,200 pipes, which combines elements of Gothic, Renaissance, and Catalan architecture. Next, we will explore the Museo de Montserrat, which houses works by El Greco, Miró, Dalí, Tàpies, Picasso, and other masters, as well as an archaeological collection featuring pieces from Egypt and Mesopotamia.
We will stop to enjoy lunch with breathtaking views of the valley, then head to Cardona Castle, where we will explore the modern fortress and parts of the old count's castle. We will visit the Torre de la Minyona and the Collegiate Church of San Vicente, a gem of Catalan-Lombard Romanesque architecture. This tour, lasting approximately 1 hour, will allow us to discover one of the best-preserved medieval complexes in Spain, famous for its resistance during the War of the Spanish Succession in 1714 and Napoleon's attacks.
Next, we will explore the historic Salt Mountain Mine, which boasts a 1,000-year history and has been converted into the Salt Mountain Cultural Park.
The tour begins in the open-air museum area, at the former 'María Teresa' extraction shaft. Here, we will learn about the history of industrial exploitation in the valley. We will then take a guided tour inside the Salt Mountain, exploring the galleries with their colored layers and veins.
Finally, we will return to Barcelona.
