Description
The Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC) is located in the Palau Nacional of Montjuïc, which was built for the International Exposition of 1929. During your visit to the museum you’ll have the opportunity to see the works of artists of Catalan Modernism, including Gaudí and Casas. Admire masterpieces by great European Renaissance and Baroque painters, such as Tiziano and Velázquez. See the museum’s collection of photography as well.
The collections are displayed on 2 floors and you should plan on spending a couple of hours at the museum to ensure that you have time to see it all. In addition to exploring the collections, you’ll have a chance to learn about the history of the building. Afterward, you can head up to the rooftop, which is the perfect spot for enjoying panoramic views of the city.
Temporary exhibitions:
From March, 21 to June, 29 2025 - Zurbarán (super)natural
From 21 March to 29 June 2025, the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya
(MNAC) presents the exhibition Zurbarán (Super)natural in Barcelona, in
which the three versions that Francisco de Zurbarán made of the painting Saint
Francis of Assisi According to Pope Nicholas V’s Vision can be seen together
for the first time. It has exceptionally been possible to bring the three works
together thanks to the collaboration between the MNAC, the Musée des Beaux-
Arts in Lyon, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
The careful selection of Zurbarán’s works that can be admired in the exhibition
includes the two versions of Still Life with Vessels, from the collections of the
MNAC and the Museo Nacional del Prado, which are being exhibited together
for the first time in Barcelona.
