Description
Your first glass of the day doesn’t come in a glass. It comes from a porrón, the long-spouted Catalan wine jug, and the trick is landing the stream in your mouth rather than on your shirt.
On this 3.5-hour small-group walking tour, a local guide leads you from the Basilica de la Mercè through the Gothic Quarter and El Born to Barceloneta, the old fishermen’s quarter by the sea. Lunchtime guests start in a vaulted bodega beside Barcelona’s 2,000-year-old Roman wall. Evening guests begin at a port-side bar hung with jamón legs. From there, choose your own Basque bite and try the bomba. Then share a seafood pan with cava in Barceloneta’s oldest house, before a Catalan pastry closes things on a sweet note.
Between bites, you’ll wander the old street of the dyers and tanners and pass the Gothic church El Born’s residents built by hand. You’ll also meet the caganer, Catalonia’s cheekiest good-luck charm, and stroll the yacht-lined marina.
Six tastings and three drinks add up to a full meal. Groups stay at 12 guests or fewer, and vegetarian and gluten-free guests are well catered for.
- Wear flat shoes - it is, after all, a walking tour, so be comfortable.
- Bring a bottle of water - we do have drinks stops throughout the tour, walking can be thirsty work.
- Come hungry. You'll be tasting lots of food!
