Description

This is not a cruise where you glimpse the artworks through a window. On an open boat, there is nothing between you and the festival but fresh Amsterdam air. You can take in each installation clearly, feel the energy of the city at night and watch the canals transform every beam of light and splash of color into part of the artwork. One moment, an installation catches your eye ahead; the next, its reflection is moving across the water beside you.

Your captain is also your guide
During this 75-minute cruise, your captain does more than navigate Amsterdam’s waterways. They are also your guide for the evening, sharing live stories about the artworks, the artists and the city itself.

Every installation has an idea, a perspective or a spark of imagination behind it. Your captain brings these stories to life as the artworks appear along the route. Discover what inspired an artist, learn how an installation connects to Amsterdam, or hear a detail that changes the way you see the lights in front of you. It is a live, personal way to experience the festival, with plenty of room to enjoy the views in between.

Small group, big atmosphere
With space for 12 to 25 guests, the Open Boat Tour offers a more personal way to experience Amsterdam Light Festival. There are enough people on board to share the delight of the evening, yet the setting remains relaxed and close to the action.

Come with a partner for a winter date night that does not involve choosing a restaurant. Bring friends for an evening that gives you more to talk about than the weather, although Amsterdam weather may still make an appearance. Join with family, welcome visiting guests or come on your own and let the city provide the company.

Settle beneath a blanket, bring your favorite people or simply bring your curiosity, and let the electric boat glide quietly through the illuminated city. This is Amsterdam Light Festival at water level: close enough to notice the details, peaceful enough to enjoy the stories, and magical enough to make you forget you are wearing three layers of clothing.

Cruise with an official festival partner
Stromma is a founding partner of Amsterdam Light Festival. When you book this official festival cruise, you experience the artworks from the place they were made to be seen from the water. At the same time, you support the continuation of the festival.

Dress warmly, bring your sense of wonder and step aboard. For 75 minutes, Amsterdam’s canals become more than canals. They are a stage, a gallery, a mirror and, on a good winter evening, one of the most enchanting places in the city to be slightly chilly.
