Description

Get to know one of the most important facets of the city and immerse yourself in the World War II history, current affairs, and culture of the Jews of Amsterdam with an experienced guide. The tour can be booked in English, German, Italian, Spanish, or French.

Jews expelled during the Spanish Inquisition helped transform Amsterdam into one of the wealthiest commercial cities in Europe and significantly influenced the city’s development and appearance. This is how the Jodenbuurt (Jewish Quarter) was established, including its most well-known section, the Jewish Triangle. The tour leads you from the famous Anne Frank House across the central Dam Square and directly to the Jewish Quarter. Along the way, you will hear fascinating stories explaining why it was precisely this area that many Jews chose to settle in.

However, it was not only Jews who lived here. Non-Jews, such as the famous painter Rembrandt van Rijn, also had their homes in the heart of the Jewish Quarter. But Jewish history in Amsterdam is not only a story of prosperity and success. The severe discrimination Jews faced under Nazi occupation also reached Amsterdam and ultimately culminated in the Holocaust during World War II.

Learn about the young and courageous Anne Frank, who was one of many Jews forced into hiding to avoid deportation. While in hiding, she wrote her famous diary, which will accompany the tour and illustrate the suffering the Jewish community had to endure. Thousands of people were deported, and only very few returned.
Pass by the Portuguese Synagogue during the tour and see important memorial sites such as Stolpersteine (memorial stones), the National Monument, the Auschwitz Monument, and other locations that preserve the memory of the Third Reich and World War II. Also discover how the Jewish community lives today in multicultural Amsterdam.

Join this tour to explore the Jewish Quarter of Amsterdam during World War II and today, while following the moving story of Anne Frank!
