Description
Follow in Anne Frank's footsteps and delve deep into her story on this guided tour of Amsterdam in German. Learn how everything changed in Amsterdam during World War II and what that meant for the life of Anne Frank and the Jewish population.
The tour begins at the famous Anne Frank monument near the Westerkerk, just a few steps away from the Anne Frank House, and follows the moving story of Anne Frank through Amsterdam. Right at the beginning of the tour, you will pass by Anne Frank's House and learn how the Frank family was able to hide in this building. Through selected diary passages, we also let Anne herself have her say and thus learn more about this special young girl.
Anne Frank was one of many Jews who had to hide to escape deportation. Thousands of people were taken to concentration camps, and only a few returned. During the tour, you will see the Anne Frank House, the Portuguese Synagogue, and important memorial sites such as the Stolpersteine, the National Monument on Dam Square with the Royal Palace and Madame Tussauds Amsterdam, the Auschwitz Monument, and other places that commemorate the era of National Socialism and World War II.
You will also learn all about the origins of the Jewish Quarter in Amsterdam and discover how the Jews expelled from Spain helped shape Amsterdam and made the city one of the wealthiest in Europe.
Discover why the Jodenbuurt (Jewish Quarter) near the Old Harbor and the Red Light District became the center of Jewish life, including the so-called "Jewish Triangle." However, it was not only Jewish residents who lived here: Non-Jews, such as the famous painter Rembrandt van Rijn, also had their domicile in the heart of the district.
Also experience how the golden age of trade made art and creativity flourish in Amsterdam. Artists such as Rembrandt, whose works can now be seen in the Rijksmuseum, and van Gogh, to whom the Van Gogh Museum is dedicated, benefited from the prosperity of the time – even if this success often only became visible later. The Heineken brewery also grew during this heyday and is now an integral part of the city with the Heineken Experience.
On this tour, you will follow the moving story of Anne Frank – from the monument next to her former hiding place to the UNESCO-protected city center and the historic Jodenbuurt.
- The meeting point for this tour is near the Anne Frank House, but we do not visit the Anne Frank House itself on this tour.
- The tour is conducted in German.
- This tour takes place in all weathers.
